Frequently Asked Questions

Why Can't I Just Use an App for This?
Changes to the system may be a-comin', but this is the system that we currently have.

Can I Barter for Your Service? I Can Give You Wool from my Alpacas.
Sorry, but no. Wait. Maybe. Sorry, but no.

Do You Accept Personal Checks?
Rarely, yes. There is a $40 returned check fee, however. Ask first.

What Do You Mean 'negotiated' travel fee? Are you going to surprise me with a bill for a million dollars?
No. No. No. If we don't have to go too far, we can give you a fair rate for travel. Everything will be agreed upon before we walk out the door. This is formalized with the State of Oregon (OAR 160-100-0400; OAR 160-100-0410)

Are You Available 24/7?
Sometimes, but mostly during normal business hours. If you need me to come out at 2 AM, please have the coffee ready.

Can You Provide Legal Advice?
Nope, and trust me, you do not want us to. We are required to state the following: I am not an attorney licensed to practice law. I am not allowed to draft legal records, give advice on legal matters, including immigration, or charge a fee for those activities.

Can You Notarize Documents from Out of State?
Yes, but the notarization must be performed within the borders of the great state of Oregon.

Will You Accept All Notarization Jobs that Come your Way?
We have the right to refuse any business if we feel that we should not provide the notarization service. We will provide you with a just cause. The law does not state that notaries MUST serve the public, but if service is refused without just cause, the notary public could face a civil law suit. ORS 194.990(1)(a).

What Languages Do You Speak?
Sorry to say, only English. Some Klingon. We're pretty good with Google Translate but it's important that you find someone fluent in your language for important documents.

Can We Just Email You the Signed Document? You'll Save Some Gas and We Won't Report You to the State that you didn't actually witness the signature.
We take our role very seriously and will not jeapordize our licence and/or livelihood. Sorry.
